A full day landscape sketching workshop, led by Hester Berry, where participents worked in the beautiful setting of Tawstock Court (formerly St. Michael's School).
This day-long sketching workshop offered a rare opportunity to explore the newly restored Tawstock Court, a Georgian country house set in 32 acres of grounds and ancient woodlands surrounded by the beautiful North Devon countryside.
The sketching days included support and teaching from artist Hester Berry, while sketching the gardens and architecture and the beautiful views across to Codden Hill and Barnstaple.
“My practice is rooted in traditional representation and methods, but I constantly challenge my understanding of 'painting' and explore ways paint can represent effects such as light, time, movement and climate. I try to use the marks available to me as economically as possible, distilling the image/feeling/moment into what is necessary, so that through objective representation there is enough room for subjective interpretation.
Having grown up in rural Devon, I have always been interested in landscape and the environment. My degree at Aberystwyth and MA at Wimbledon nurtured this interest and also led me to explore life drawing and portraiture. I taught life drawing and painting in Brighton and London. I have recently returned to Devon where I now live and work”. – Hester Berry
