Grizel grew up on a sheep farm in Scotland and with siblings, sheep, sheep dogs, hens, hares, deer, stoats, moles, toads, frogs, worms, wild geese, grouse, nuns etc.
She then moved to Devon in 1966 : more sheep, ponies, nuns, buzzards. Sea.
Attended Dartington Hall School where the art rooms were always open.
Started ceramics here. Mice. Xenopus Clawed Toads.
Completed a Foundation Course at Bideford School of Art, (drawing, printmaking, pigeons, sister) before going on to study Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art. Working with film as well as more drawing, painting, and kinetic mixed media work. Took a 3 year break mid degree to do a Tattooing Apprenticeship and to play in bands. Returned to finish with a thesis on Tattooing.
Spent 10 exciting years in London, squatting, playing music, being an activist, banner making, yoga, writing, ceramics, humans.
Went to live in Kerry with a Kerry man. Started teaching yoga, more ceramics. Mountains, islands, sheep, donkeys, horses, seals, dolphins, skald crows, choughs. 3 fine sons. 8 years.
Moved back to Hartland. Completed yoga trainings and continued teaching yoga. Sea, sea monsters.
Began making hand-bound books, dendritic marblings and poetry pamphlets through the creation of Snake Perch Press.
Joined groups such as NDA, Appledore Crafts Company and Swanskin Printmakers. Exhibited locally, including a joint exhibition with her sister at The Plough Arts Centre, as part of the Bideford Black show at The White Moose Gallery in 2013 and more recently as part of BABE 2017 (the book art book event) at The Arnolfini, Bristol. Runs monoprinting and bookmaking workshops. Won 1st Prize in the Plough Open Drawing Competition 2015. Plankton, newts, bees.
