Chris Chapman : A Retrospective Exhibition
8 November 2014 – 2 January 2015
Dartmoor-based artist Chris has worked as a photographer and filmmaker for the past 35 years, documenting aspects of rural life across Devon and Somerset. His photographs reflect traditional skills inherent in the indigenous population and emphasise the accumulation of knowledge associated with age and customs. As Chris explained, “I want people to see what I saw and share in what moved me to take the picture, in the hope that each image will fire the viewer’s imagination and endure”.
This retrospective exhibition of Chris Chapman's black and white photography was his first solo exhibition of work for many years and it proved to be very successful, with a record number of visitors to the gallery and two sold-out screenings of Chris' film about Exmoor artist Hope Bourne.
