jonny briggs

Jonny Briggs, Envisionaries No. 1, 2013Jonny Briggs produces highly personal work that explores the nature of family relationships and the mythology of ancestry using props and constructed sets to photograph his disguised self and family members. In search of lost parts of his childhood, Jonny tries to think outside the reality he was socialised into and creates new realities with his parents and his self. Although easily assumed to be photoshopped or fakes, upon closer inspection his images are often realised to be more real than expected. Involving staged installations, the cartoonesque and the performative, Jonny looks back to his younger self and attempts to re-capture childhood nature through his assuming adult eyes.

Jonny studied at the Chelsea College of Art (2008) and the Royal College of Art (2011). He was winner of the Saatchi/Channel 4 New Sensations 2011 and awards include the Conran, the Lumi and the NESTA Creative Sparks Award. His work has been published in the British Journal of Photography, The Guardian, The Times, Independent, La Stampa, Arte Italia and Design Week. He lives and works in Berkshire and London.
